Vancouver day 2

sunny 29 °C

Public holiday (BC day)- all public transport free! Caught bus up to Burnaby Mountain. Passed through all extremes of suburban class including Hastings St where all the homeless are encouraged to stay. Burnaby Mt is where Simon Fraser University (SFU) is located- Cal's workplace. Saw apartment where they last lived in Univercity. Walked around the grounds then walked through forrest to Burnaby Mt Park. Good views of the city and surrounding mountains. 699FF5BA2219AC68179751094FF38354.jpg Totem Poles

Caught bus to Commercial Drive- street with diverse range of restaurants & cafés - and had lunch. Caught train back to city. Walked to Yaletown- upmarket area of city full of restaurants & bars ( similar to our East Perth). Walked back to apartment & had a swim in the pool to cool down!
Caught ferry to Granville Island markets to buy fresh produce & have pre dinner drinks. Dinner at home tonight.

Finally got here after a looong but manageable flight! Met Cal at the city station & walked back to his apartment. Freshened up then went down to waterfront for a walk & experience 'Flyover Canada'- a simulated 4D show that has you experience flying over Canada's mountains, waterfalls and landmarks while strapped in a seat that moves as if you are flying & at the same time getting sprayed by mist etc. ( about the limit of my thrill seeking needs!). Walked to Gastown (historical entertainment district) for drinks & dinner. Tried a 'caeser' cocktail- a savoury mixture of CLAM JUICE!, tomato juice, vodka, celery salt & whatever else takes their fancy! Not my favourite! Also 'poutines'- fries with gravy & cheese curd- yum! Walked back to the apartment & slept well!
